On Monday 2nd March, PTC announced the release of Mathcad Prime 3.1. With the new features in this version, you can better connect your engineering calculations to other applications and processes.
This release introduces a new, enhanced integration with PTC Creo. Users can embed and edit a PTC Mathcad worksheet directly in the CAD model, at the part or assembly level. This allows PTC Mathcad to automatically calculate and drive parameters to update the CAD model. At the same time, parameters from PTC Creo can be used to drive engineering calculations. This new ability to quickly and easily document engineering knowledge and design intent with PTC Mathcad inside the PTC Creo model provides engineers with a powerful digital engineering notebook.
PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 features several new enhancements designed to make the product a single solution for engineers and design teams to capture and communicate their critical design and engineering knowledge.
- New, Improved API: Integrate PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 with any CAD platform, design software, analysis tool, PDM systems or other application.
- Large Data Handling: Data sets to be analyzed can now utilize all available machine memory – no longer is there a system-imposed 2GB memory ceiling.
- Expanded, Extensive Library of Pre-Built Worksheets: Draw from over 700 pre-built templates for calculations across mechanical, electrical, civil & structural and chemical engineering, as well as applied mathematics and education.
- Integration with Other Tools: Connect to Prode© physical properties, CoolProp© fluid properties, read and write in HDF5 file format, read and write to any ODBC-compliant database, and export matrices to C++ code.
PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 provides even greater power for users working with large data sets. By making use of the latest in Microsoft technology and 64-bit architectures, data sets are no longer limited to 2GB of memory. Additionally, PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 is now certified to run on the Windows 8.1 platform, continuing our support for the most popular PC operating system.

Brent Edmonds – Senior Director for Mathcad at PTC
“We are very pleased to share PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1” said Brent Edmonds, Senior Director of PTC Mathcad. “In this release we worked very hard to provide a solution that makes sharing vital engineering calculations and design intent a simple, cost-effective process. Gone are the days of having to waste time going back and updating and mapping the calculation files to a new product each time a design is modified. With PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 we are essentially giving our users back the time – and cost – of setting up new projects.”
PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 is the only engineering notebook you need. This new release is the single solution for solving, analyzing, documenting, and sharing your essential engineering calculations and design intent.
