Introducing the PTC Creo Design Exploration Extension

Typically, a designer is only able to explore 2 or 3 design alternatives during the concept design phase, yet according to recent research:

  •  92% of companies say they would benefit immensely by exploring more design alternatives during concept design.
  • 85% of companies agree product success requires innovation and good concept design.
  • 73% of companies say the most critical decisions are made during concept design.

PTC Creo Design Exploration Extension is a new tool for changing, ideating, and evaluating new ideas and design changes easily and efficiently in a dedicated environment, that saves the hassle of manual processes that typically involve backup of models to ad-hoc folders, repeatedly closing and cleaning session, and manually revisiting and reviewing massive iterations until making a decision.

With Design Exploration you can quickly create multiple changes to your design, capture snapshots along the way, and instantly toggle between them. This allows users to better handle and manage complex design changes, explore new ideas and perform interactive design reviews that can be stored for documentation purposes, allowing you to make confident decisions about design alternatives.

At any point during the design you can initiate a Design Exploration session and the entire session content will be captured in a snapshot, entering a “safe mode”. In this mode user can freely make modifications to multiple models and capture additional checkpoints.

Each checkpoint will store incremental changes to models in the session.  A user can then instantly toggle checkpoints and the system will automatically reload the different model iterations stored in the activated checkpoint. If working in an earlier checkpoint that already has successors, user can still create new checkpoints with different design modifications, the system just forms separate developmental branches. This allows you to easily split the design and evaluate multiple different ideas simultaneously without losing information or committing to any changes.

Once ready to make a decision, user can accept a checkpoint and apply all its changes instantly onto the original models. Alternatively, you can roll back all modifications and go back to your starting point or any checkpoint within the design exploration session.

In addition, advanced Update Control capabilities  allows users to get individual notifications for data-sharing features if references have changed, preview and investigate those changes, and explore their impact before propagating those changes to the feature and/or its children.

With these capabilities, users can perform design changes and explore new concepts with confidence, evaluate the impact to the design before making changes, and manage those changes systematically in a manageable, safe and fun environment.

Best of all, purchase before March 24, 2015 to save 20% on the PTC Creo Design Exploration Extension.
